How To Get Into College?

There's a lot more to getting into college than filling out the application. Colleges are more competitive than ever, and getting into your college of choice means having an impressive resume made up of good grades, a wide range of life experiences, a focus on the future, and a commitment to working hard. And it often means starting by your freshman year in high school.

Making the Grade
Admissions officers want to see your transcripts, so goofing off until your junior year won't help you. Take challenging classes, and work hard in them. Slacking off in your senior year could affect your standing, even after you're accepted.

Take the Tests
Most colleges require SAT or ACT scores as part of the application package. Take them early and often to improve your scores and demonstrate your early commitment to college prep.

Do Your Research
If you want to know how to get into the college of your choice, learn as much as you can about it. This will affect everything from your interview to your essay, to what major you choose, or which of your extracurricular or volunteer activities are likely to stand out the most. It will also help you in tailoring your application effectively.

Be a Super Star
Colleges want good students and good citizens. Show them that you're responsible and mature, and will contribute to their community of learners, by participating now in extracurricular activities, volunteering for local nonprofits, doing community service, or taking a part-time job.

Be Yourself
Don't lie or exaggerate on your application (it's too easy to get caught), and don't write an essay that you think will impress admissions officers - it probably won't. Just be the best version of yourself; your natural abilities can carry you much further than you might think.
